I agree with the previous posers about value of recognition of Snape's importance. Also, there can be one more reason, which flashed through my mind, when I was reading the scene for the first time:
"Mr. Potter is FINALLY thinking ON HIS OWN and without help of Miss Granger! Oh frabjous day!"
