Actually, I believe I read something like it in Machiavelli. The scary thing is when 
megalomaniacs like Lord Thingy actually manage to attract followers with organizational 
skills (a la Hitler) or have someone they think of as a lackey who actually has the brains 
and knowledge to wield power without the narcissistic need to be acknowledged on the 
one hand or empathy or sense of justice on the other.

I think LV's main weakness--aside from his fear of death, as emphasized by DD--is his 
utter contempt for what Dumbledore calls "we fools who love." Sacrifices like Lily's are 
simply unthinkable to him. Based only on JKR's sense of symmetry, I think we can expect a 
similar sacrifice to lead to Voldy's ultimate destruction. Whether that sacrifice is made by 
one of the Trio, or by someone else (one of the 'new trio'--Ginny, Neville, Luna--or a 
teacher, or one or more of the Weasleys, or someone heretofore unsuspected), remains to 
be revealed by the lady herself....
