Carol:
First, JKR made it pretty clear in her recent chat that Snape is not a
vampire or associated with vampires, and the chief adherents of that
theory have pretty much given it up. (I could be wrong, but I don't
think that more than ten or so people on this list ever staunchly
defended the vampire!Snape idea.)
As for Snape being a snake (or able to turn into one), I think it's
very unlikely. Snape is known to be at Hogwarts during at least some
of the dreams in which Nagini occurs, and those dreams are concurrent
with the events they depict. Most important, he's at Hogwarts when LV,
possessing Nagini, bites Mr. Weasley in OoP. Snape's patronus could
very well be a snake (it would fit both him as a Sytherin and the
snakelike sound of his name), but I think we can pretty much dismiss
any idea that he himself is a snake, especially LV's constant
companion, the she-snake Nagini.
