It also saves him earlier in OotP in Privet Drive when he and Dudley are
attacked by dementors...he's failing in his attempts to produce a Patronus
to drive the dementors away UNTIL he thinks about Ron and Hermione and how
he won't ever see them again...

I absolutely agree with you that the final fight won't involve wands or
killing curses...I think to destroy Voldemort, Harry will have to find some
way to love him, or love Tom Riddle...
