Now Me:
JKR has said that the Lord of the Rings trilogy has not affected her
writing, and btw she didn't even like them that much. I do see what
you all are saying, especially with Wormtongue/Wormtail, although
that can be a coincidence as a rat is, well obvious symbolism and
many evil overlords have minions like that in many stories.

But I do not see the parallel with the Nazgul and the Dementors. The
Nazgul are not seperate creatures, but they are "the damned" if you
will. They are not alive, nor dead and they are forever searching
for the ring. The Demenotrs on the other hand are a seperate
creature, like dogs and cats only much more dangerous and scary, and
you know, magical. We do not know whether they are dead or alive or
the non-dead, but all evidence points to them being part of the
beast division at the MoM (and not the spirit one). It would be
mentioned, I would say in FB. They are not looking for a certain
something, like the ring, but for people they can feed on. They are
driven by lust, not greed. When the Nazgul hurt you, you become one
of them, when Dementors kiss you, you become a vegetable. At first
site they seem alike, but they are not.

Just my two knuts.
