Oops! Apologies if I trod on your toes.
It's annoying when you post and then some other insensitive beast
dives in with another thread on the same subject. Seems to be getting
more prevalent lately, I've noticed. Sorry, it was unintentional.
I started musing about it while putting together my TBAY piece at the
weekend. The wand conflict seemed so convenient that suspicions
were aroused.
The major problem to resolving this one is lack of information - again!
JKR is just too damn good at offering clues or connections that whet
the appetite and then whipping away the menu by not allowing her
characters to ask the obvious questions. Anyone would think she was
doing it deliberately! Surely not.
A long time ago (oooh, back last summer, which seems like years), I
posited that the current Voldy War is yet another episode in an ages
long battle involving some of the same characters (re-incarnated)
slugging it out over the centuries. Not only the cast but also the
events are replayed. And they will keep on repeating with minor
changes until one side or the other gets it right. This would mean
that DD is a re-incarnation of Godric Gryffindor and Voldy of Salazar
Slytherin. (Think an extended version of Ken Grimwood's 'Replay' or
even 'Groundhog Day' if you must.) This would help explain DD's
apparent cold-bloodedness - Harry is a transient character in a
conflict that DD has been fighting over generations. And he is only
important to the extent that he might (or might not) be a major
piece in the game.
This theory would explain why DD seems to be able to anticipate
events and plan counter-moves before the event. The only problem
is that there's no evidence to support it! But it does give us a big
stage to play on - lots of scope for speculation.
