That is exactly what I always assumed it meant, but it still bothered me
until I looked at it in the following manner. Although I have no proof, it
still makes a little more sence to me that Bella is referring to Black's
Animagus as a form not his own. So, instead of Bella just saying I was busy
fighting Black, she was basically saying I was fighting someone who looked
like Black.(the Tonks theory grew from there) Even if it may not have been
Tonks, I still feel that it wasn't Sirius (and not because I want him back
so badly, although that would be a plus)

I believe Jkr said that a character doesnt come back if they are "properly"
dead. What that means, properly, I'm not sure. But when she said in the
latest interview in response to what form Sirius would be in if he returned,
she said she couldn't possibly answer that without incriminating herself.
She could have just replied with she couldn't answer that question, but she
added the most suspitious statement of self incrimination.
Again, this leaves the field wide open to speculation.
