I'm very busy at the moment (ah the joys of finishing up a twelve page paper) and on a library (tiny little things) computer.

But the comemnt:

"an enormous old book", so presumably NF is a bit older by now.

That struck something in me.

NF was a real guy, so by referancing the date the Real NF was born, with the year that the first book was supposed to take place in, and the date provided in the "enormous old book"

Well, if it was all matched up correctly, then wizarding books could be auto updating (thus eliminating the need for sequencial).

That could be a plot point, the hogwarts, a History, updating to include Harry's exploits for instance.

It could also be a red herring, or another JKR math victim.
