<<<Looking at your date of 1296 (which still puzzles me), that would
date the book's publication as 1962. OK, so it isn't self-updating.
But then, why is it described as an enormous /old/ book? A
description likethat makes me visualise one of these leather bound
huge volumes dating from the 19th century......>>>
JoAnna:
But remember that the book is being looked at from the perspective
of a twelve-year-old boy. To a twelve-year-old boy, an adult over
the age of 30 is old. :)
I wouldn't be surprised if Ollivander was a *relative* of Flamel,
but I doubt the two are one and the same for the reasons I've given
before, and also given Dumbledore's reaction when Harry asks him
about Flamel in PS/SS (again, I don't have the book handy, so this
is from memory, but it's from the chapter "The Man With Two Faces"):
"But your friend... Nicholas Flamel..." [said Harry].
"Oh, you know about Nicholas?" Dumbledore said, looking
delighted. "You *did* do the thing properly, didn't you?"
It seems that if Flamel was Ollivander, Dumbledore, rather than
being delighted, would first want to know if *Harry* knew who Flamel
really was - i.e., just how much Harry & co. had found out about
Flamel.
- JoAnna, who is firmly convinced that Flamel and Ollivander are two
different people, and wonders why this even matters to her in the
first place :)
