There is *no* question in my mind that Peter's crimes against 
humanity are farther reaching than we yet know.  Why did the 
Lestranges, Crouch and ? go after the Longbottoms?  Someone KNEW they 
were the only other couple who fit the profecy and had a child and I 
don't think Volde shared that information.  Peter knew why Voldemort 
wanted the Potters and he knew there was another couple who could 
have fulfilled the profecy.  He sent that horrible group to the 
Longbottoms to buy himself time to escape.  

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
