Ron as a matchmaker can definitely serve as a comic relief - I like the guy, but his matchmaking is a certified disaster, IMHO.
Interpreting the scene I'd rather stay at the "eye-level". Of ourse it can be argued that JKR chose the word castle for this very particular reason. However the same piece is often called "rook" or "elephant" (in old sets). Now Ron pushing Ginny towards Harry's rook may give strange image to ones mind.
