Jen: I've always loved Lupin and the calm, thoughtful manner he
approaches the children, conflict, etc. Find fault with his lapses
in judgment if you will, but I'd argue he's been a better protector
of the children than any other adult (i.e., Dementors, Shrieking
Shack, Dept. of Mysteries).

And he's no slouch in the Magic department, either.

There's much more to Lupin than what we've seen so far, and
it's not because he's Evil! In fact, there's something so inherently
good and powerful about him that IMO we will see great things from
him in the next two books.

What was he doing all those years Sirius was in Azkaban and Peter
was a rat? Studying, practicing, perfecting...He's been such the
background character so far and that makes me suspicious. He can
cast a Patronus even though it's incredibly advanced magic; he is
able to teach difficult skills; he's chosen to be in the Order,
teach at Hogwarts, & is part of the Advance Guard.

I used to think Lupin was a Dumbledore charity case, but actually DD
chooses people for their abilities, esp. abilities that aren't
mainstream. Hagrid is certainly an asset to have around, what with
his stun-proof skin and knowledge of magical creatures. And Lupin,
the shunned werewolf, could easily drop out of sight to master
advanced magical skills for a war DD knows is coming.

No energy is wasted if you work with Dumbledore--he knows a person's
strengths and weaknesses and encourages individuals to work in areas
where they will shine.

Jen, part of the Lupin fan club :)
