I have never posted this devious little thought I've had before.  
What if Snape was a part of this "happy party" as well.  perhaps the 
reason this charming group of DE's was ever caught was that there was 
a witness in the form of a fellow DE named Snape who extracted 
himself as quickly as he could to turn them in.  Perhaps Neville hit 
the door of Potions Class desperately afraid of Snape for a very real 
reason, unrelated to his grades. Boggart!Snape *was* reaching for his 
wand, not his grade book.
