Are you a teacher? I have taught and I've had students who were like
Hermione. They, without fail, intimidated the rest of the class.
Everyone knew who'd shout out the answer and whose hand would shoot
up first (usually those two things happened simultaneously) and if
there wasn't a unanimous groan when it happened it was giggles
all 'round.

class.

Mel:
Absolutely. And ready to PARTICIPATE. Not take over. I've seen kids
like her get sour-pusses on or go sulky when someone else answers a
question correctly. I don't know if Hermione does that at HW but it
wouldn't surprise me if she'd done it in grammar school.

Mel:
Again, as in the case of Snape's giving Harry zeros all the time we
really see very little of anyone's class time. Some teachers do
enjoy having students like her in class. It means they don't have to
work.

>>Face it -- Snape is a jerk!!!!

Mel:
Jerk? No. Nasty piece of work? Absolutely. He dislikes children and
dislikes teaching (except perhaps his NEWT classes--I think he might
have a better time there. Or has had until next year when you-know-
who and crew crash the party.) He really, *really* dislikes
insubordination and showboating. I always laugh when someone brings
up how "obvious" it is that Snape wants to be headmaster. Honestly I
can't think of a job he'd want less. Which means, of course, that
the poor SOB may end up being just that. He has my sympathy.

Mel
No, he's on the side of the order because it suits his purposes.
Which are personal and have very little to do with being on
the "right side" for the sake of being right. That's IMHO.

I still think it's funny that so many are still saying how awful he
is to Hermione while she herself is his defender every time Ron
(let's not get started on HIS classroom behaviour) flaps his jaws
about ESE!Snape.
