I think that assumes Lupin *knew* what Neville's boggart would be.  We
already know he guessed Harry's boggart wrong, remember?  He thought it
would be LV, but it was a dementor.  I think it's a bit of a strech to
assume that Lupin knew Neville's would be Snape.  Perhaps he thought it
would be his "formidible" grandmother.

The point was to teach the kids to banish a boggart, which necessitated them
dealing with their fears.  The object--making their fears funny--was a
simple way of giving the kids control over their fears.  Even before HP,
that's what I've done, and I bet most parents have done.  Scared of public
speaking?  Imagine the audience naked.  Afraid of dogs?  Pretend it's
wearing a funny dog-sweater.

So Lupin calls Neville first, and lo and behold, his worst fear is Snape...
That's humiliating enough.  I'd be hurt to find out I was someone's *worst
fear*.  The dress was, IMHO, just a sidebar.
