For the DD=Ron fans:
We know from the chocolate frog cards that Dumbledore
is "particularly famous for...his work on alchemy with his partner,
Nicolas Flamel."
The library book:
Flamel is "the only known maker of the Sorcerer's Stone." ...The
stone will transform any metal into pure gold. It also produces the
Elixir of Life, which will make the drinker immortal. There have
been many reports of the Sorcerer's Stone over the centuries, but the
only Stone currently in existence belongs to Mr. Nicolas Flamel...who
celebrated his six hundred and sixty-fifth birthday last year [and]
enjoys a quiet life in Devon with his wife, Parnelle (six hundred and
fifty-eight)."
Since Dumbledore is only 150 years old and Flamel is over 600 years
old it makes sense that he had nothing to do with the creation of the
Sorcerer's/Philospher's Stone. (In fact the library book never says
he had anything to do with it.) It therefore makes more sense that
DD/Ron first started as Flamel's apprentice.
Another interesting comment about the stone is that it can also
transform any metal into pure gold.
Let's say that Ron=DD. It would be very interesting if Harry's
fortune in Gringotts was really due to Ron who uses the stone to make
sure that Harry is taken care of for the rest of his life.
In SS/PS DD tells harry that the Stone wasn't really that great
anyway:
"You know, the Stone was not such a wonderful thing. As much money
and life and you could want! The two things most human beings would
choose above all - the trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing
precisely those things that are worst for them."
Is DD talking about Flamel or himself? It sure sounds like something
Ron would say. (I'm not even going to go in the direction that
perhaps Ron=Flamel=DD and Hermione=Parnelle=Minerva it's just to
exhausting/confusing.)
DD also tells Harry about Flamel and wife:
"They have enough Elixir stored to set their affairs in order and
then, yes, they will die."
This quote doesn't necessarily mean that the Flamel's are going to
die immediately after book 1.
Perhaps Flamel and wife are going to make a future appearance. Maybe
they have enough elixir stored to last a few more years until the end
of book 7.
