That sounds like it's SUPPOSED to be construed as a "no" but in 
fact, it's not. (It's not a yes, either.) In fact that non-answer, 
IMO, is just a way to address the question in a vague way.

It IS, of course, possible that Snape might be an (unregistered) 
Animagus whose form is that of a bat.
