I'm not a Snape as vampire fan.  But I do wonder what all the bat 
images associated with him are about.  We can understand all the dog 
ones that come up with Sirius and the the wolf like ones with Remus.

The vampire essay had a purpose.  It may have been a red herring by 
JKR (that falls in the This is all Fiction theory) Or it may be that 
if you learned about vampires, you would learn something about 
Snape.  What makes it particularly vexing is that we can't use the 
books at Hogwarts.  Because I think everyone of us would be doing 
that essay!
