Bah, it's pretty obvious that Dumble must have thrown a lot of his authority with the people who knew Snape's past, and he must have lots of trust in the man himself.
I'm not talking about very rational reaction of the parents. It's just the effect of the words: Dark Arts practitioner teaching Defence Against Dark Arts. Sabotage? Fear of him "accidentally" jinxing a student? etc. So Dumble gives him a job he's well suited to and which is in less spotlight. Sure it's dangerous ("Snape Poisonmaster" sounds nice), but safe jobs are rare in Hogwarts. Although I'd like to see Severus teaching History of Magic. :)
Side note: the whole concept of Dark Arts/White Arts is oubtful and undefined properly.

This I guess is a "hobby" and not a part of job description, so Dumble and SNape are "clear" here. Although appointing former DE as security chief would be rather smart move (as I guess you're implying :)).

I'm not sure what is the status of *royal witness*, if I use proper term. Any lawyers around?

Cheers, Viridis
