She didn't really "join" the group of Gryffindors, but she did have 
a bunch of interaction with them. Sharing a section on the train, 
joining the DA, getting her dad to publish the article etc. 

I can't remember exactly how she ended up tied up in Umbridge's 
office with the others right now, but I'm going to assume that she's 
just friends with Ginny. After all, how many Gryffindor friends does 
Ginny even have? I don't seem to recall her ever being mentioned 
around with other Gryffindors in her year. She usually rides the 
train with the trio does she not?

I suppose after the school finding out you were being controlled by 
Voldie and setting a Basilisk around the castle you wouldn't be that 
popular would you?
