Actually, I think "bitch" is technically a compliment coming from The
Sergeant Majorette (JDR, that is). ^_~
Personally, I wouldn't call her a bitch, at least not in the
traditional sense. She can be ruthless, domineering, and insensitive
-- that *is* true -- but usually only when it is (IMO) *right* to be
ruthless, domineering, and insensitive.
I think people often home in on Hermione's "bitchy" side at the expense
of noticing her compassionate one because it's such a deviation from
the accepted model of girlhood. The truth is, Hermione is one of the
few characters that offers emotional, physical, and intellectual
support to those who need it (e.g. Harry, Neville).

Just out of curiosity, how do you SHIP? I think I've noticed a
tendency in male Hermione fans to be H/H, but as we have so few
representatives of the Y-chromosome here, it's difficult to tell if
there's an actual correlation.
