Mark Twain's autobiographical book 'Life on the Mississippi'
contains an account of a river-pilot who had a perfect memory. Any
time he was asked a question, he would start answering, then get
side-tracked by remembering something else about whatever he was
talking about, then get side-tracked from his side-track, and so
on. His conversations were one long train of associated memories,
never reaching the original destination.
I don't know how accurate this is, but if somebody did in fact have
a near-perfect memory, it sounds plausible to me.
