I personally have always assumed that Snape keeps applying for the 
DADA job because having to live in the Hogwarts dungeons is so mighty 
uncomfortable. I mean, if he isn't killed in the war against Voldy 
he's going to die of rheumatism. The DADA master's quarters look so 
snug and warm...
