I've never thought of that comparison before: Marauders leaving map 
that was found and used to Riddle leaving diary which was found and 
used.  In neither case did the owner  choose who would get it and in 
both cases they were called "dark arts" by a trusted (by us) wizard. 
(Although Snape calling the map dark arts is generally considered to 
be a diversion.) 

Of course, the map was taken from the Marauders, but do we know how 
Lucius got the diary?
