Meri adds:
Prof. Dumbledore's first name is also rarely used. Hagrid, Madame
Maxime, other professors, the Minister of Magic and many other
people call him by his last name. In fact one of few people who I
have ever heard call DD by "Albus" is, IIRC, Prof. McGonagal, at the
begining of SS. (Most other teachers are also refered to by just
their last names by students and other professors.) Why this is,
though, I can't speculate. I would assume that calling DD by his
last name is a term of respect, and for Hagrid...well, he's just
Hagrid, isn't he? I mean, "Reubeus" seems awfully formal, and
doesn't quite have the friendly ring to it that "Hagrid" does. Does
it?
