That was also how he was able to escape.  If this is the case then the Dementors

were drawn by the stands full of people cheering.  It would be like am 
all-you-can-eat buffet of sorts.
It seems everyone has missed the point of my original post.  My question was 
why over 100 dementors were at Hogwarts to begin with if their only job was to 
guard the gate.  Also if drawn to the Quidditch field because of the large 
crowd, why do they seem to be paying attention only to Harry.
