help me with the Riddles

Okay guys. My mother and I are going back through all the books in our own
sick effort to see if we can solve it all. I have seen lots of posts about
the first chapter of GoF where people say that the three people were Tom Sr.
and his parents (LV's father and grandparents). Can someone tell me if there
is proof of this or if it is just a theory?
 
Has JKR said this in an interview or did I miss something in the books? Did
it say when those deaths took place?
