Harry's not told that in the book.  At least not that I saw when I just 
looked at the page.

Ginny may have written it in the diary since it was such a big deal 
during the dueling lesson.  In the movie (sorry to refer to that) we did 
see Ginny writing and exchanged a look with Harry after that incident. 
She could have been pouring her heart out to Tom at any time off camera 
or off page.
