Yes, she did, but hey..that's an angle we didn't think of. Maybe the 
Longbottom's are trying to quit smoking as well ! 


My reply:  OKay I'm going way off the deep end on this one but, I think it could be sort of a symbol of more than just her quitting smoking.  She quit so that she could live longer, in a way she quit to save her life.  Perhaps the gum wrappers are sending Neville a message, they are either a clue into how to save his life or a clue to help save their lives.  Or rather get there lives back.  Gee, how did I come up with that?
