Mandy here:
I though that might come up.  Voldemort himself may not deserve 
respect, I do think he is a murdering bastard, who should be flayed 
alive for his crimes against humanity. But his persona within the 
Potterverse as Arch Super Villain Lord Voldemort, the nemesis of 
Harry Potter should be treated with respect. Otherwise we weaken our 
Hero Harry by weakening his enemy. 

I will add that I do think that Voldemort is one of the weaker 
villains in the story.  All the HP villains, with the exception of 
Snape, are rather 2 dimensional, and out of all the 2 dimensional 
villains both Lucius Malfoy and Bellatrix LeStrange come across as 
more deadly and scary than Voldemort.  But Voldemort is the Big Boss 
whether I like it or not, and he's the one who's going to be in the 
final show down with Harry at the end. So I want him to be great.
