Ali, this is an interesting point you make about the hero's
journey. I'm only an amateur at best, but I've always been keenly
interested in mythology and psychology. To that end, I've done a
bit of reading on Jungian psychology. It seems to me (and I've
actually written an essay on this if anyone is interested) that
Hermione has increasingly come to function as Harry's anima
(feminine aspect). This is a one reason why I believe H/Hr is most
likely and has been subtly built within the subtext of the series.
I believe that a big part of Harry's hero journey will be the
realisation and integration with his feminine aspect, symbolised by
his union with Hermione.
There is some discussion that can be had about who fills this role
for Harry, but I believe that there is ample evidence that it is
Hermione.
