Geoff:
I would agree. Ron says "I /think/ Mum's got a second cousin...." 
He's not sure whether (1) he's a second cousin or (2) he's an 
accountant. (3) I assume he's a good deal older than Ron and so he 
hasn't bothered/wanted/needed to find out.

Again, why "think"? Because they never talk about him. I have a 
second cousin who is older than me, whom I only met for the first 
time last year. I don't know what she did as a job; it's just never 
come up in conversation. I've side before that, in real world 
situations, we don't interrogate new acquaintances or our realtives 
so that we know every last detail about them.
