I don't think this particular social malady is unique to the wizarding
world, do you?  But not only did they judge Sirius harshly, look what
Harry's been through.  He's been up again-down again on the public
opinion polls since he first started at Hogwarts.  He gets to learn
the hard way, I guess, that what other people think doesn't really matter.
