But people who forget, say, insulin, risk only their own lifes. Lupin's
slip threatened other people.

I don't know whether Dumbledore would be prepared to give  him another 
chance, but not many people would. Snape closed this choice and I 
understand why Dumbledore would be angry about that, even if he would 
ask Lupin to resign anyway.

Lupin also put children's life at risk in other ways - if he told about 
Sirius being animagus, Dumbledore could convince Fudge to remove dementors.
