On the contrary, we strive to make Snape look better than the way he
comes out in too many readers' posts, namely as someone whose entire
presence in the novels is just a combination of mean teacher/wanna-be
toad poisoner who hates Harry because he hated James.  All of which
are at best superficial readings of one of JKR's greatest fictional
inventions.  If anything, we're subjecting the text to a close
reading while stripping away the preconceived notions about Snape's
character and motivations.
