Um, Dumbledore wasn't even at Hogwarts when Harry and Ron 
went to the chamber. As for the rest of the teachers,  Harry and 
Ron thought that they had cravenly sent Lockhart to go confront 
the monster alone: "We'll make sure everyone's out of your way. 
You'll be able to tackle the monster all by yourself. A free rein at 
last." It sounded to them as if  McGonagall "that's got *him* out 
from under our feet" would have been perfectly happy to see 
Lockhart devoured.
