be wrong) doesn't Voldemort refer to himself in the third person in
other instances? I don't have the book with me at the moment, but I
think Voldemort says (paraphrasing) 'Lord Voldemort is kind/generous,
he will forgive' or something like that. I think it was the graveyard
scene in GoF? Damn it. Can someone supply the quote (if there is one)?
Geoff:
Your memory is quite right; Voldemort does refer to himself in the
third person in the graveyard scene. I must admit I'd never really
taken that on board prior to you mentioning it.
'He looked down at Wormtail who continued to sob.
"You returned to me, not out of loyalty but out of fear of your old
friends. You deserve this pain, Wormtail. You know that, don't you?"
"Yes, master," moaned Wormtail, "please, master... please..."
"Yet you helped me return to my body," said Voldemort coolly,
watching Wormtail sob on the ground. "Worthless and traitorous as you
are, you helped me... and Lord Voldemort rewards his helpers.."'
(GOF "The Death Eaters" p.563 UK edition)
and again....
'"MacNair... destroying dangerous beasts for the Ministry of Magic
now, Wormtail tells me? You shall have better victims than that soon,
MacNair. Lord Voldemort will provide..."'
(ibid. p.565)
