Pippin is really hoping (methinks) that JKR has been
exceedingly sneaky and careful with her statements about Lupin,
to set us up for a very big BANG.

the characters she loves (along with HRH, DD and Hagrid),
doesn't strike me as particularly sneaky and careful.<

 >If I don't believe in ESE! Lupin, it's partly because I believe
these statements give us a clue about JKR's intentions with this
character, and not because I personally think Lupin is such a
great man; so far, he's been too flawed to qualify.<

yes, but great."--PS/SS ch 5

"Not Slytherin, eh?" said the small voice. "Are you sure? You
could be great, you know, it's all here in your head, and Slytherin
will help you on the way to greatness, no doubt about that -- no?
Well, if you're sure -- better be GRYFFINDOR!" --PS/SS ch 7

Ms. Rowling, which character besides Harry is your favorite, and
why?

I think that would have to be Hagrid -- but I love Ron and
Hermione too, and I also love writing characters like Gilderoy
Lockhart, Snape, the Dursleys... it's such fun doing horrible
things to them.

Will we be seeing Lupin anytime soon?

Yes, Harry will be seeing Lupin again. He's another of my
favourite characters.

Rowling: Mm hmm. I know exactly what's going to be in five, six
and seven. And when I've finished that, then we can have the full
and frank discussion, but until then, if I give full and frank
answers I'm giving away things about the plot, so I don't want to
do that.
---

That sounds to me like JKR admitting she isn't giving frank
answers till Book Seven is on the racks, but I'm sure somebody
will be able to explain that this wasn't what she meant to say at
all ;-)
