I also don't believe that Sirius is dead. First, the spell that hit Sirius is not the usual green of the AK, and the Canon never said what spell it was. Second, before the fighting, Harry and the gang saw the veil moving, so it must mean that many souls are passing by this veil. (Take note: Souls.) Sirius went through the veil flesh and bone... and I think that it just transported Sirius somewhere else. (Just like Dante's Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso.) I think that there will be a Chapter in HBP that will end in Harry in trouble, then Sirius out of nowhere saves him. And the next Chapter will tell of Sirius' Journey Through the Veil (probably tell Harry that he met his James and Lily inside the Veil).
