Which is sort of what I'm getting at. What was he waiting for? Was 
Severus distracted by Lily? Did he consider the fight over?  Did he 
consider it unfair?  As angry as he seemed to be, I'm surprised he 
didn't fire off a curse or two during that time. But he didn't. Yet 
in a moment, James fires back at him.
