He knew that Voldemort wasn't dead.  How did he know this?  We
haven't found out yet.  But this is one of the unsolved mysteries of
the series that will tell us a lot more about the past when we hear
the truth.

I don't think it means manipulative!Dumbledore.  M!D implies that
Dumbledore knows whats going on but I think he's just winging it
better and with less hand-wringing than almost anyone else would.
