Yeah, but just to play Devil's Advocate - seeing as how the quote is 
from the first book, couldn't "years to come" simply refer to the 
following seven years, in which we're fairly certain Harry doesn't 
die?  He does reflect on what he's done in the previous years already 
in OoP (he certainly does enough shouting about it to Ron and 
Hermione, anyway...)
