done or not done; I'm merely spouting off about what I think Sirius
himself might have been thinking. Some posters have been arguing that
Sirius' case as presented makes no sense -- that he must've been in on
a double-cross of James & Lily -- or that he was a coward. I'm trying
to show an alternative way of looking at his actions which might bring
us to a different conclusion.
As for contacting DD, do we know that he didn't? [I'm asking that
question in haste, so the answer may be yes, we do know that!] My
reference to DD's remark that Order members have more reliable means
of communication [snipped from my previous post] was meant to show
that I believe he might have been able to contact him while he was on
his way or as he arrived.

There's one major point that we mustn't forget when we discuss
Sirius's actions, especially where DD is concerned : concerning the SK
plan, James and Sirius had acted *on their own*, without telling DD
what they were doing. They hadn't acted as soldiers respectful of
authority and part of a global plan, but as free electrons. So why
would Sirius revert to being a respectful soldier when he found out
that Peter was missing ? If he didn't trust DD enough to tell him
about the SK switch, why would he trust him now ?
And why didn't they trust DD to start with ?
