    Remember in Lord of the Rings, the same thing was said of Gollum 
by Gandulf: what in fact happened was Gollum bit Frodo's finger off 
to steal the ring.  That turned out to be a good thing but it 
doesn't come under "I owe this guy so I will help him out." type of 
act.  It may be Peter tries something nasty that turns out to be 
helpful.
