I don't fully know why I find your post so interesting Magda (I'm 
NOT a Sirius hater) but yes it isn't clear what he is/was 'for' 
either.

However, I DO think JKR has made it clear that his ABSENCE has 
become necessary. Sirius HAD to die - let's have a theory about WHY.
