I don't know about Alla, but you're spot on for me, plus, of course SSS's
"snarky, witty repartee". These may be good reasons for quite a few people.
Women especially. I have been reading fan fiction of various fandoms for
many years, and used to write it, and one thing I've found is that female fans
just can't resist a character who *suffers* ! :-)
I also suspect that if Snape betrays the good guys in the last novel and
laughs fiendishly as Harry dies, there are going to be a LOT of pissed-off
fans. ;-)
