This is an excellent point and it makes perfect sense.

The hardest thing for me to impart on my students was the idea of natural consequences and doing for yourself.  And I must admit, when I first started teaching it was hard for me to **not** rush in and fix/correct student errors/mistakes/problems.  I have no doubt that Hermione meant well when she whispered the correct ingredients and steps to Neville, she in fact was/might have been a hindrance.  If Neville (or even Harry and Ron) knew that Hermione was going to be around to provide them with solutions, what motivation would they have for doing the work on their own?

Oh, and please don’t take this as a Hermione bash . . . it’s not.
