I was frantically trying to catch up with back posts (I'm drowning!
I'm drowning!) when I came across this statement, which I cannot let
pass.

Finwitch: If Petunia never applied to a Muggle school, expecting a
Hogwarts letter, it may explain why she ended up as a house-wife
instead of having a work of her own.

Soory, but this is a damned patronising attitude to t ake towards
women who elect to be stay-at-home Mums. Do you really think the job
of bringing up children is suitable only for the uneducated? My
husband and I decided that I should give up my job while the children
were small. It was a job I loved (teaching) and it meant
considerable sacrifices, but I never regretted it. Nor did I ever
allow anyone to call me "just a housewife". I am a great believer in
the old adage: Educate a boy and you educate a man: Educate a girl
and you educate a family. Admitted Petunia doesn't make a marvellous
job of bringing up Dudley but Molly is also, as far as we know, "just
a housewife" and I think she's made a brilliant job of bringing up
her kids.

Sylvia (not getting at you specially, Finwitch, but I've had to put
up with a lot of crap from other people on this subject)
