A couple of folks have speculated today as to why DD hasn't been able
to fill the DADA position.

I've long thought that Harry is going to end up the DADA professor at
the end of the series, and the DADA professorship revolving door is
simultaneously a device to introduce new major adult characters every
book and to have the spot open for Harry when he grows up. (That also
explains why JKR claims* there are no wizarding universities--if there
were, we'd wonder how Harry manages to get the job right out of school.)

* I say "JKR claims" because I think there are things about the
wizarding world she does not know. :) One of those "how many
bathrooms are there aboard the Enterprise?" things.
