Just a thought...  We saw in OotP a few instances of rather violent 
magic with possible nasty outcomes (or incarnations)  The first that 
comes to mind is the curse YoungSnape uses on James out near the 
lake.  He swipes his wand and a cut appears on James' face.  Perhaps 
this can be used in more violent NHN-like ways?  

Also, the curse used against Hermione in the DoM could be another 
method of magical death...  My guess is that these are just the tip 
of a "Magical Pyramid of Death"...
